Sports injuries: back to your sport from Zeist

Hockey at Saestum or Phoenix, running in the Zeisterbos, cycling over the Heuvelrug, golf, tennis, padel, football: sport is why many people live around Zeist, and sport is where injuries happen. Our physiotherapist Jeroen Vermeer specialises in knee, ankle and shoulder injuries and in getting you back on the pitch with a plan, not a guess.

Diagnosis first, with ultrasound

A sports injury needs a precise diagnosis: a sprained ligament heals differently from a torn one, a tendon overload differently from a tear. In the first consultation we test the joint and, for muscles and tendons, use diagnostic ultrasound to see what is damaged and how badly. That decides the plan: how long to protect, when to load, when to run again.

If an injury needs a doctor, an MRI or an orthopaedic surgeon, we say so and help you get there quickly.

From treatment to return to sport

The first weeks are about healing and keeping the rest of your body fit. Then the work moves to the exercise room: strength, stability, balance and, for runners and field athletes, running drills and change of direction. We test before you return to full training, so that the first match is not the test.

Shockwave therapy for stubborn tendons, dry needling for overloaded muscles and taping are part of the toolbox when they help.

Sports physiotherapy at MoveWell Zeist

Jeroen Vermeer played football and tennis and still snowboards. He treats athletes the way he would want to be treated: honestly about the timeline, and with a plan that ends on the pitch.

Costs and insurance for sports injuries

Sports injuries are treated from supplementary insurance: 62 euros for the first consultation, 47 euros per follow-up. Ultrasound is 32 euros and focal shockwave 14 euros per session, often partly reimbursed.

The sports injuries we treat most often at the Panweg.

Sports injuries we treat

Ankle sprain

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

The most common sports injury. We check the ligaments, start loading early and train the balance that prevents the next sprain.

Knee injuries

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Meniscus, ligament and patella problems, from a twisted knee in hockey to runner’s knee. Ultrasound, strength and a return-to-sport test.

Cruciate ligament

Rehabilitation after an ACL injury or reconstruction: nine to twelve months with clear milestones, in our exercise room.

Hamstring injury

A sudden pull while sprinting. Ultrasound shows the grade; a graded running programme gets you back without re-tearing.

Achilles and patellar tendon

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Tendon pain that will not go away with rest. Loading exercises and, when needed, shockwave therapy.

Shoulder injuries

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Overhead sport, swimming, tennis and the gym overload the rotator cuff. Diagnosis, strength and technique.

Shin splints and stress injuries

behandeling fysiotherapie na botbreuken

Pain along the shin in runners. Load management, footwear, running technique and strength.

Tennis and golfer's elbow

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Overload of the forearm tendons, not only in players. Loading exercises, shockwave and a look at your technique.

Back pain in sport

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Golf, cycling, rowing and swimming load the back in their own way. We find the weak link.

Three steps to recovery

Step 1: Move

First we restore movement. Pain makes you guard the area, and a joint or muscle that is not used stiffens further. Hands-on treatment, mobilisation and the first gentle exercises get you moving again, usually within the first two or three sessions.

Step 2: Strengthen

Then we build strength and stability. In our exercise room at the Panweg you train the muscles that protect the joint, with a programme set by your physiotherapist and adjusted every visit. This is the part that makes the result last.

Step 3: Function

Finally we make it work in daily life: lifting, sitting at a desk, running, playing with your children. You leave with a short home programme and advice on posture and load, so you know what to do if the complaint ever returns.

Frequently asked questions

Should I keep training with an injury?

Often partly, yes. Rest heals the injury but weakens everything else. Your physiotherapist tells you what you can keep doing, and we adapt your training rather than stopping it.

When can I play again?

When you pass the tests, not when a calendar says so. We measure strength, balance and sport-specific movements and compare them with your healthy side before you return.

Do I need an MRI for a sports injury?

Usually not. Clinical tests and ultrasound answer most questions in the first visit. For suspected cruciate ligament or meniscus damage we refer you for an MRI through your GP.

Do you treat children and teenagers with sports injuries?

Yes. Growing athletes get injuries of their own, such as Osgood-Schlatter or Sever’s disease. For specialised paediatric physiotherapy we work with the children’s physiotherapist of MoveWell Hilversum.

Is sports physiotherapy reimbursed?

From supplementary insurance, yes, as regular physiotherapy. We invoice the insurer directly.

Do you also treat non-athletes with the same complaints?

Of course. A tennis elbow from gardening or a sprained ankle from a kerb gets the same examination and plan.

Can you help me prevent injuries?

Yes. A short screening of strength, mobility and balance shows where your risk is, and a preventive programme takes a few weeks.
