Rehabilitation after surgery or injury in Zeist

An operation repairs the structure; rehabilitation gives you back the function. After a new knee or hip, a shoulder repair, a fracture or a cruciate ligament reconstruction, the weeks and months of training decide how well you walk, lift, climb stairs and play sport again. At the Panweg in Zeist you do that training in our own exercise room, with a physiotherapist who follows your surgeon’s protocol.

Rehabilitation that follows your surgeon's protocol

Every operation comes with rules about what you may load and when. We work with the protocols of the hospitals around Utrecht and Amersfoort and, if you had surgery abroad, with the instructions your surgeon gave you. Bring the discharge letter to the first visit. Your physiotherapist translates the protocol into a weekly plan: range of motion first, then strength, then function, with milestones you can see.

After many operations rehabilitation is covered by basic insurance from the twenty-first session (chronic list), with a referral from the surgeon. We check this for you.

What rehabilitation at MoveWell looks like

The first weeks are mostly hands-on: reducing swelling, restoring movement, protecting the repair. Then you move to the exercise room, where the equipment lets us load a joint precisely. Sessions become longer and more active. We measure progress, strength, range of motion and function, and adjust the plan. Towards the end the training looks like your daily life or your sport, because that is what you are going back to.

An exercise room at the practice

No separate gym, no travel between physiotherapist and trainer: treatment and training happen in the same building at the Panweg, with the same person.

Costs and insurance for rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after operations on the chronic list is covered by basic insurance from the twenty-first session; the first twenty sessions come from supplementary insurance or your own pocket (47 euros each). We check your policy before you start.

What we rehabilitate

Knee replacement

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Range of motion in the first weeks, then strength and walking pattern. Most people walk without aids within six weeks.

Hip replacement

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Walking, stairs and hip strength, with the precautions of your surgeon. Covered by basic insurance from session twenty-one.

Cruciate ligament reconstruction

Nine to twelve months in phases, with tests before each step. Our exercise room has what you need for every phase.

Meniscus surgery

A short rehabilitation of a few weeks, with early strength work to protect the knee.

Shoulder surgery

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

After a rotator cuff repair or stabilisation: a sling period, then careful movement, then strength. Patience pays.

Fractures

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

After the cast or plate: restoring movement in the wrist, ankle or shoulder and rebuilding the strength you lost.

Back surgery

behandeling fysiotherapie na botbreuken

After a discectomy or fusion. Walking first, then core strength and lifting technique.

Ankle and foot surgery

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

After ligament repair, a fracture or an arthrodesis. Weight bearing, balance and a return to walking and sport.

After a long illness

Fysiotherapie Zeist - MoveWell Zeist

Rebuilding strength and condition after a hospital stay, an infection or a cardiac event, in small steps.

Three steps to recovery

Step 1: Move

First we restore movement. Pain makes you guard the area, and a joint or muscle that is not used stiffens further. Hands-on treatment, mobilisation and the first gentle exercises get you moving again, usually within the first two or three sessions.

Step 2: Strengthen

Then we build strength and stability. In our exercise room at the Panweg you train the muscles that protect the joint, with a programme set by your physiotherapist and adjusted every visit. This is the part that makes the result last.

Step 3: Function

Finally we make it work in daily life: lifting, sitting at a desk, running, playing with your children. You leave with a short home programme and advice on posture and load, so you know what to do if the complaint ever returns.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start physiotherapy after surgery?

Usually within the first week after discharge, unless your surgeon says otherwise. Early guidance prevents stiffness and gives you a plan from day one. Call us before the operation if you want to arrange it in advance.

Is rehabilitation after surgery covered by basic insurance?

For operations on the chronic list, such as a joint replacement or a cruciate ligament reconstruction, yes, from the twenty-first session, with a referral. The first twenty sessions come from supplementary insurance or your own pocket.

I had surgery abroad. Can you take over the rehabilitation?

Yes. Bring the surgical report and the protocol your surgeon gave you, in any language. We follow their instructions and keep them informed if they wish.

How often do I need to come?

In the first weeks usually twice a week, later once a week with training at home or in our exercise room in between. The plan depends on the operation and your goals.

Can I use the exercise room on my own?

During rehabilitation you train under supervision. Once the physiotherapy part is finished, you can continue with medical fitness at the practice, ask your physiotherapist.

Can rehabilitation start before the operation?

Yes, and it helps. A few weeks of prehabilitation before a knee or hip replacement means more strength to start with and a faster recovery afterwards.

What if I live outside Zeist?

Patients come from Driebergen, De Bilt, Bilthoven, Bunnik, Den Dolder, Soesterberg, Doorn and Utrecht. Parking is free and the building is step-free. Home visits are possible with a referral.
